Estate Planning: secure your legacy and protect your family

Blog Categories

Let’s talk estate planning.

Do you ever imagine that estate planning is only meant for the wealthy people? No it is not, it is for everyone. Have you ever wondered why a lot of Kenyans pass on without having made arrangements on how their estate or assets should be shared or distributed? Do you notice how often people get to uncover secrets about the deceased’s wealth, property, money and debts, after he is no more? Why do people have to deal with deciding how someone else’s property needs to be distributed when he is not there?

Your family does not have to go through pain trying to find and locate your assets (some of which they may never do). They also do not need to decide how your assets and liabilities need to be handled or distributed.

In instances where the family gets to discover things after someone has passed on, some of those discoveries are shocking, frustrating, and disappointing. In other instances, people are left to decide on how their deceased relative’s property has to be shared. While in others, the deceased’s assets and liabilities are completely unknown and the family has to begin by trying to trace them. In some good cases, the deceased has proper and clear instructions on how distribution should happen.

It is important to determine (while you are alive) what your assets and liabilities are, and how they will be preserved and managed. This includes handling of the estate when you are alive or after you die.  There are several necessary tasks to consider when planning your estate to ensure there are no loopholes.
